Usage Note
Acrobata is an epicene noun with a masculine/feminine distinction only in the article: l'acrobata (m/f), gli acrobati (m pl), le acrobate (f pl). Like other nouns ending in -ista and -ata, the plural is gendered. Figuratively, fare l'acrobata can describe someone juggling complex or contradictory obligations.
