addebitare

to charge, to debit

verb ahd-deh-bee-TAH-reh Rare

Usage Note

Addebitare takes avere and is used in banking and commercial contexts: addebitare un conto = to debit an account. It is the opposite of accreditare (to credit). Do not confuse with accusare (to accuse) — addebitare una colpa can mean 'to lay the blame on someone' but the financial meaning predominates.

Examples

"La banca ha addebitato le spese sul conto."

Natural Translation

The bank charged the fees to the account.
