approdo
landing place; haven
Origin: From approdare (to land, to arrive), from Latin ad- + proda (shore).
Also means
arrival; outcome
Usage Note
Approdo literally means a landing place or harbour where a boat comes ashore, but figuratively — and very commonly — it means the end result or destination of a process: trovare un approdo sicuro (to find a safe haven; to reach a firm conclusion). The figurative use is more frequent than the literal one in contemporary Italian. The verb is approdare, which also has the figurative meaning 'to lead to / to come to': a cosa approda tutto questo? (what does all this lead to?).
