beneducato

well-mannered

adjective beh-neh-doo-KAH-toh Rare

Also means

well-bred

Usage Note

Beneducato is the compound of bene (well) + educato (raised, educated) and means well-mannered or well-brought-up. In Italian, educato on its own already means 'polite/well-mannered' (not just 'educated'), so beneducato is an emphatic form. Its antonym is maleducato (rude, ill-mannered) — an insult in everyday Italian.

Examples

"Il bambino è sempre beneducato con gli ospiti."

Natural Translation

The child is always well-mannered with guests.
