bimba

little girl

noun BEEM-bah Rare

Also means

baby girl

Usage Note

Bimba is the feminine form of bimbo (little boy) — note that English 'bimbo' is a false friend; in Italian bimbo/bimba simply means a small child with no negative connotation. It is slightly more affectionate and colloquial than bambina. The plural is regular: le bimbe. In informal speech parents often use bimba as a term of endearment even for older daughters.

Examples

"La bimba ride felice nel parco."

Natural Translation

The little girl laughs happily in the park.
