chiamare
to call
verb kyah-MAH-reh Common
Origin: Latin clamare (to shout, call out)
Also means
to name
Usage Note
Chiamare uses avere as auxiliary: ho chiamato. The reflexive chiamarsi means 'to be called / named': mi chiamo Anna (my name is Anna, literally 'I call myself Anna'). To call someone on the phone is simply chiamare; no preposition needed: ti chiamo stasera (I'll call you tonight).
Examples
"Ti chiamo dopo cena."
Natural Translation
I'll call you after dinner.
