Contrapporre is an irregular verb following the pattern of porre: contrappongo, contrapponevo, contrapposi, contrapposto. It takes avere in compound tenses. It means to place one thing against another in opposition — physically, intellectually, or rhetorically. Contrapporsi a qualcuno (reflexive) means to stand in opposition to someone.
