Also means
marsh vegetation layer
Usage Note
Cuora is a rare, literary and regional feminine noun (la cuora) for the soft, grassy layer that floats like a meadow on the surface of lakes and marshes, or the cracked dried bed of a drained marsh. It is a specialist term in geography and rural dialects of the Po Valley, not an everyday word. Do not confuse it with the plural of cuoio (leather), which is i cuoi (or idiomatic le cuoia).
Examples
"La cuora galleggia sulla superficie del lago."
Natural Translation
The floating mat drifts on the surface of the lake.
