definitiva

definitive; final

adjective deh-fee-NEE-tee-vah Rare

Usage Note

Definitiva is the feminine form of definitivo and appears most often in the fixed phrase in definitiva ('all in all, ultimately, in the final analysis') — a very common discourse marker in Italian speech and writing. As a standalone adjective it agrees in gender and number with the noun it modifies: la sentenza definitiva ('the final ruling'). Do not confuse with definitivo alone, which is the masculine/base form.

Examples

"In definitiva, la scelta spetta a te."
