dichiarazione
declaration
noun dee-kyah-rah-tsee-OH-neh Common
Origin: From Latin declaratio (a making clear), from declarare (to make clear).
Also means
statement
Usage Note
Dichiarazione is the standard term for a formal statement or declaration — dichiarazione dei redditi is the Italian tax return (income declaration), and dichiarazione d'amore is a declaration of love. It is a false friend for some learners: it does NOT mean 'declaim' but a formal statement or announcement.
Examples
"Il ministro ha rilasciato una dichiarazione alla stampa."
Natural Translation
The minister issued a statement to the press.
