Famigliare (also spelled familiare) means both 'familiar' (well-known, not strange) and 'relating to the family': un ambiente famigliare can mean either 'a familiar environment' or 'a family environment'. The context usually disambiguates. It is invariable for gender: un volto famigliare, una voce famigliare. The noun familiarità means 'familiarity'.
