generalità

generality

noun jeh-neh-rah-lee-TAH Rare

Also means

personal details

Usage Note

Generalità has two distinct senses: in the abstract it means 'the general nature of something' (la generalità del principio); in bureaucratic and legal Italian the plural le generalità specifically means a person's identifying particulars — full name, date and place of birth. An officer asking 'mi dica le sue generalità' is requesting your personal details. The word is invariable in the plural (ends in accented -tà).

Examples

"L'agente ha chiesto le generalità del testimone."

Natural Translation

Literal Translation

The officer has asked the personal-details of-the witness.
