Giurare uses avere as auxiliary (ho giurato = I swore). It means both to swear an oath (giurare fedeltà = to swear loyalty) and to swear as in assert strongly (ti giuro! = I swear to you!). The noun is il giuramento (oath, vow). In legal contexts, giurare il falso means to commit perjury.
