Globo is always masculine. Il globo terrestre is the standard phrase for 'the Earth' viewed as a sphere, distinct from la Terra (Earth as a planet or the ground). In everyday speech globo can also refer to a glass globe lampshade (globo di vetro). Do not confuse with globulo (corpuscle, blood cell).
