Usage Note

Imbuto is the ordinary word for a funnel used in cooking or mechanics. The plural is imbuti. Figuratively, a imbuto ('funnel-shaped') describes a tapering structure or bottleneck, for example in traffic: traffico a imbuto ('bottleneck traffic'). The shape is also used in marketing contexts: il funnel di vendita is now also common as a loanword.
