Usage Note

Impenitente is invariable for gender: un peccatore impenitente, una peccatrice impenitente. Used both in religious contexts (unrepentant sinner) and ironically in everyday speech to describe someone who cheerfully refuses to change a habit: un fumatore impenitente = 'an unrepentant smoker'.
