Usage Note

Insicurezza covers both psychological insecurity ('self-doubt') and physical unsafety ('the insecurity of the neighbourhood'). In everyday speech the emotional sense dominates. Its opposite is sicurezza, which similarly covers both 'safety/security' and 'self-confidence' — a nuance that does not map neatly to English. The adjective is insicuro.
