intrappolare

to trap; to ensnare

verb een-trap-poh-LAH-reh Rare

Usage Note

Intrappolare is often used reflexively — rimanere intrappolato (to be/get trapped). It covers both literal trapping (animals, people) and figurative entrapment (in a situation). The double pp reflects the prefix in- + trappola (trap). Auxiliary: avere; reflexive form uses essere.

Examples

"La volpe rimase intrappolata nella rete."

Natural Translation

The fox got trapped in the net.
