Usage Note
Lotteria is feminine. Italy has a long tradition of state lotteries; the most famous is the Lotteria Italia, drawn each year on 6 January (Epiphany). Vincere alla lotteria means 'to win the lottery.' The word can also be used figuratively for any situation of pure chance: è una lotteria! (it's a lottery!).
