Usage Note
Lupo has the feminine lupa (she-wolf), which is the symbol of Rome — the she-wolf who nursed Romulus and Remus. The idiom in bocca al lupo! ('into the wolf's mouth!') is the standard good-luck wish; the correct reply is crepi (il lupo)! ('may it die!'), never grazie. The plural lupi is regular.
Examples
"Un lupo solitario attraversava la foresta."
Natural Translation
A lone wolf was crossing the forest.
