marcare

to mark

verb mar-KAH-reh Rare

Also means

to score

Usage Note

Marcare covers both physical marking (marcare un pacco — to mark a package) and sports scoring (marcare un gol — to score a goal). In football contexts it also means 'to mark' an opposing player. It takes avere as its auxiliary. Do not confuse with segnare, which is more common for 'to score' in everyday speech.

Examples
