Usage Note

Natio is a literary and poetic adjective meaning 'native' — the place where one was born or grew up. It is a rare, elevated synonym of natale or nativo (il paese natio — one's native village). Dante uses it in this sense. In everyday modern Italian, natale or nativo are the standard equivalents.
