Usage Note

Pirata is an invariable masculine noun ending in -a — a pattern that surprises learners since most -a nouns are feminine. The plural is i pirati. It is also used attributively as an adjective in compounds: radio pirata (pirate radio), taxi pirata (unlicensed cab).
