Usage Note
Provenienza denotes the place or source something comes from — it is used for goods (certificato di provenienza = certificate of origin), people (di provenienza straniera = of foreign origin), and data. It derives from provenire (to come from, to originate). The plural is provenienze. For personal ancestry, origine (f) is often preferred.
