Usage Note
Pubblicato is the past participle of pubblicare used adjectivally. When used as part of a compound tense it takes avere: ho pubblicato il libro ('I published the book'). As an adjective it agrees in gender and number: il romanzo pubblicato / la rivista pubblicata. Do not confuse with pubblico (public, as an adjective or noun).

Natural Translation
The novel published last year was successful.
