Usage Note
Quarzo covers both the mineral and its use in watchmaking (orologio al quarzo = quartz watch). A cristallo di quarzo is a quartz crystal. The adjective form is quarzoso ('quartzose'). Note the 'qu' cluster: it is always pronounced 'kw'.
