Usage Note
Reggimento (plural reggimenti) is primarily a military unit of several battalions, commanded by a colonel. Historically it also meant 'governance' or 'rule' (from reggere, to rule), a sense now largely archaic. In Italian military history reggimenti played a prominent role in the Risorgimento.
