Usage Note

Ricongiungere means to bring separated people or things back together — most commonly in ricongiungimento familiare (family reunification), a key term in Italian immigration law. It is irregular in the past participle: ricongiunto. The reflexive ricongiungersi means 'to be reunited' (with essere as auxiliary).
