Ridicolo functions both as a masculine noun ('the ridiculous') and as an adjective meaning 'ridiculous, absurd'. The idiom cadere nel ridicolo means to make a fool of oneself. As an adjective it agrees in gender: una situazione ridicola. Avoid confusing it with ridicoloso, which is substandard.
