Usage Note

Rigato means marked with lines or stripes, used for fabric (tessuto rigato), pasta (penne rigate — pasta with ridged sides), or a surface with grooves. The feminine is rigata. Penne rigate are perhaps the most familiar context for English speakers. Do not confuse with striato (streaked) or zebrato (zebra-striped).
