Usage Note
Scuro primarily describes absence of light (una stanza scura, 'a dark room') or a deep shade of colour (blu scuro, 'dark blue'). As a noun il buio is preferred for darkness as an abstract; scuro as a noun is less common but heard in phrases like allo scuro di tutto ('in the dark about everything'). The opposite is chiaro (light, bright). Regular -o/-a/-i/-e agreement.
