Sotterranea is the feminine form of sotterraneo; it agrees with a feminine noun, such as la metropolitana sotterranea or la galleria sotterranea. As a standalone noun, il sotterraneo means a basement or underground chamber. Do not confuse with sottoterra (underground, as an adverb).
