Usage Note
Spada is the word for a sword, and also names the 'spades' suit in Italian playing cards (le spade). The swordfish is pesce spada (literally 'sword fish'). Spada is feminine: la spada, le spade. Do not confuse with spago (string/twine) which looks superficially similar.
