Sperimentale describes something based on experiment or trial, or avant-garde and untested. It is invariable for gender: un progetto sperimentale, una fase sperimentale. The plural is sperimentali. In Italian arts, it often marks cutting-edge or unconventional work (teatro sperimentale).
