stilo
stylus; style (pen-like instrument)
noun STEE-loh Rare
Origin: From Latin stilus, the pointed writing tool.
Also means
stiletto dagger
Usage Note
Stilo refers both to an ancient writing stylus and, by extension, to a slender pen or pencil-shaped object. In Renaissance usage it could also mean a thin dagger (pugnale a stilo). Do not confuse with stile, which means 'style' in the aesthetic sense — stilo is specifically the physical instrument.

Natural Translation
The scribe used a bronze stylus.
