Usage Note

Succo is the standard word for juice: succo di frutta (fruit juice), succo d'arancia (orange juice). It also means the sap of a plant and, figuratively, the essence or gist: il succo del discorso (the gist of the speech). The plural succhi is regular. Note the double 'c': succo, not sugo, which means sauce.
