Usage Note
Suono refers to sound in general (il suono di una campana) and is also the basis of the verb suonare (to play an instrument / to ring). Do not confuse it with rumore (noise, an unwanted or incidental sound) — Italians distinguish the two carefully. The plural is regular: i suoni.
Examples
"Il suono del violino era bellissimo."
Natural Translation
The sound of the violin was beautiful.
