Usage Note

Tavolozza refers both to the physical painter's palette (the flat board holding pigments) and metaphorically to a 'range of colors' or 'color scheme': una tavolozza di colori vivaci ('a palette of vibrant colors'). It is a diminutive of tavola ('board/table') and its double l must be held when pronouncing. The plural is regular: tavolozze.
