Usage Note
Vegetariano functions as both adjective (un piatto vegetariano) and noun (un vegetariano = 'a vegetarian'). It differs from vegano (vegan), which excludes all animal products. The feminine form is vegetariana; plural vegetariani/vegetariane. Italian menus increasingly mark dishes with a 'V' for vegetariano.
