hug

noun ahb-BRAHT-choh Rare

Also means

embrace

Usage Note

Abbraccio is derived from the verb abbracciare ('to hug'). In informal written closings — emails, messages between friends — Un abbraccio or Un caro abbraccio is a warm sign-off equivalent to 'Hugs'. The plural abbracci drops the final vowel's -o-i regularly. It is masculine: un abbraccio forte ('a tight hug').

Examples

"Le ha dato un lungo abbraccio prima di partire."

Natural Translation
