Usage Note
Acciaieria derives from acciaio ('steel') and refers to an industrial plant where steel is produced. The plural acciaierie is regular (-a/-e). Italy's most famous acciaieria is the former ILVA plant in Taranto, which has been at the center of major environmental and labor debates.
