Usage Note

Accoglienza describes the welcome or reception given to someone — it can refer to a physical reception area (sala d'accoglienza) or the quality of being welcomed (una calorosa accoglienza = 'a warm welcome'). The verb is accogliere (to welcome, to receive), which is irregular. In current Italian it is also used in the context of accoglienza dei migranti (reception of migrants).
