accomodare

to fix

verb ahk-koh-moh-DAH-reh Rare

Origin: Latin accommodare, from ad- + commodus (suitable)

Also means

to accommodate

Usage Note

Accomodare means to fix or repair something, or to make it suitable. The reflexive accomodarsi is extremely common as a polite invitation — it means 'please sit down, make yourself comfortable', as in Si accomodi! (formal) or Accomodati! (informal). It takes avere in its non-reflexive form.

Examples

"Si accomodi pure, la prego."

Natural Translation

Please, do sit down.

Literal Translation

Please-herself sit-down, I-ask.
