Alto means both 'tall' (of people or objects) and 'high' (of prices, temperatures, mountains). The opposite is basso (short/low). Note that in alto means 'up / above' (directional): guarda in alto (look up). Ad alta voce means 'aloud'. Feminine: alta; plural: alti / alte.
