anticipare
to anticipate, to bring forward
verb ahn-tee-chee-PAH-reh Less Common
Origin: Latin anticipare
Also means
to advance (money or time)
Usage Note
Anticipare takes avere as its auxiliary. It means both to do something earlier than planned (anticipare la partenza — to bring the departure forward) and to foresee or predict (non potevo anticipare questo — I could not have anticipated this). Anticipare soldi means to advance money. Do not confuse with prevedere when the sense is purely predictive.
Examples
"Abbiamo anticipato la riunione di un'ora."
Natural Translation
We moved the meeting forward by an hour.
