Apporto is masculine: l'apporto, gli apporti. It is used in formal and academic contexts: apporto nutritivo ('nutritional contribution'), il suo apporto al progetto ('his input to the project'). In everyday speech contributo or aiuto is more common. Do not confuse with appalto ('contract, tender'), which sounds similar.
