Assimilare takes avere as its auxiliary. It is used for absorbing knowledge (assimilare un concetto), assimilating food or nutrients (assimilare le vitamine), and cultural or linguistic integration. The reflexive assimilarsi means to become assimilated into a group or culture. Do not confuse with somigliare (to resemble).
