Assumere is irregular: present assumo; past participle assunto (not assumuto); auxiliary avere. In HR contexts assumere means 'to hire/recruit': l'azienda ha assunto dieci persone ('the company hired ten people'). It also means 'to assume (a role or responsibility)' or 'to take (medication)': assumere una pillola ('to take a pill'). The noun assunzione covers both hiring and the taking of a substance.
