Autoveicolo is the formal and legal term for any self-propelled road vehicle, used in legislation, insurance documents, and technical contexts: tassa di proprietà dell'autoveicolo (vehicle ownership tax). In everyday speech Italians say macchina or automobile. The plural is autoveicoli. Note the stress on the third-to-last syllable: ow-toh-veh-EE-koh-loh.
