Usage Note

Avallare means to formally back or validate something — a claim, a proposal, a loan. It comes from avallo (guarantee on a bill of exchange) and is widely used in political and journalistic Italian: avallare una teoria (to endorse a theory). It takes avere as its auxiliary.
